Director's Blog: £10 for 10 years

12 May 2017

As 2017 marks the ten year anniversary of The Lightbox, last week we launched our £10 for 10 years fundraising campaign. For this week's blog, The Lightbox Director Marilyn Scott looks back over the past decade, and explains why your donations would mean so much to us.

Ten years ago this month the interior of The Lightbox was finally taking shape and beginning to look more like a museum and gallery. The Ingram Collection had been delivered to it’s new home and Woking’s Story was emerging from paint and dust to a point where we could actually begin to imagine objects taking their rightful place.

In that ten years The Lightbox has fulfilled all the dreams that those of us involved in the early stages of development hardly dared imagine. We are often described as ‘much loved’ ‘an integral part of the life of the town’ and when we won The Art Fund Prize ‘a quiet jewel’. It all looks, on the surface, as if it has been easily achieved, but of course the reality is it is the result of much hard work and dedication by a lot of people.

The financial situation is always challenging but we maintain our commitment to free activities and to our work which benefits those in society who derive immense benefit from engaging with creative activities in a local, friendly setting.

For this reason I urge you to give generously to our £10 for 10 years campaign. It will enable us to continue the great things which were started here in our home town an unbelievable 10 years ago.

Please donate to our £10 for 10 years campaign
