Here at The Lightbox we cherish our volunteers, and we couldn't do what we do without them there to support us. From greeting visitors, to leading gallery tours, to assisting with children's workshops and activities, the work is varied and invaluable! And we're always on the lookout for new faces to join our friendly volunteer brigade, so if you've been thinking about giving some of your time back to the community, here's why coming to help at The Lightbox is a great idea:

1. Meeting new people
Whether you're on 'meet and greet' duty at the front entrance, or keeping watch over an exhibition, meeting new people is one of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering in a friendly public space like The Lightbox. Our come from all ages, places and walks of life, all united by a love of art, culture and heritage - and people are always happy to chat and learn more about The Lightbox!

2. Being part of the Volunteers community
We have regular social events to say thank you to our volunteers, including the Annual Summer Party (barbecue, anyone?) and Christmas drinks. Lots of volunteers have been with us for years, and love welcoming new helpers into their fold!

3. Gaining experience
For young people interested in arts and heritage, volunteering is such a valuable way to get your CV kickstarted, and to gain on the ground experience of how galleries and museums work. You'll learn a lot about the professional environment and get the confidence you need for the next step in your arts career!

4. Access to exhibitions by internationally renowned artists
Spending the day with Moore, Turner or Constable? Volunteering gives you the opportunity to surround yourself with works by world-class artists, learning about their history and meaning. We offer exclusive guided tours of exhibitions by our curators, so that soon you'll be leading tours and teaching people yourself!

5. Discounts and drinks
We're so grateful to all our hard-working volunteers, and we want to make sure their work is acknowledged. So we offer everyone a 10% discount on purchases in our Shop and Cafe, and if you're volunteering for Front of House, you'll get a free hot drink from Seasons Cafe to fuel you through each shift.

To become a Volunteer at The Lightbox please fill out the downloadable form and email it to [email protected] or hand it to our Reception. Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications from those under the age of 16.
