Art in Mind is a programme of monthly creative workshops for people with dementia and their family members, friends or supporters. The workshops are led by an artist with an emphasis is on simple art activities, inspired by works from the Ingram Collection of Modern and Contemporary British Art, but an important element is the opportunity for social interaction and discussion about particular art works.
Each session starts with tea, coffee and biscuits and a time to meet and socialise, before looking at the chosen art work. Participants are then introduced to different mediums such as watercolour, printing or clay. There is a team of trained volunteers and two members of staff, who assist the participants, but everyone, including the carers, takes part in the activity, so it is very much a group session. There is a lot of laughter and chat and mutual encouragement and, at the beginning of the series, everyone is given a sketch book and pencils to take home, to encourage further art activity and discussion in between sessions.
Refreshments will be provided. Limited spaced available. Advance booking required via telephone - it is not possible to book for this event online.
