Breaking the Code: Signs and Symbols in Art

Whether you are new to the history of art world or someone who wishes to brush up on their existing knowledge, these talks set in an award winning gallery and museum might be just what you are looking for. Suitable for age 16+. Advance booking required.

Artists have often used signs and symbols to send messages or summarise ideas. Words are only occasionally used in art so other visual clues are vitally important. Sometimes meanings are missed because we are out of the loop, or are unaware of the historical code being used.
