One of the largest Cathedrals in Europe, Winchester Cathedral's roots go back to Anglo-Saxon times when much of England was still pagan. Building of the existing massive Cathedral began in 1079 and has never really stopped as additions and refurbishments have been made over the centuries. The Cathedral is full of items of great historical and religious interest. Among these are the great nave, the exceptional stain glass windows, statues and effigies of bishops and others and burial sites of many famous people including King Cnut. A fascinating visit is assured.
The visit includes tea and coffee, entry and a tour. After the guided tour there will be ample time for lunch in the Cathedral café or in one of several nearby eateries as well as to explore the Cathedral environs and visit the Christmas market and other places of interest. The visit is limited to 30 people and booking will be on a first-come, first served basis. Friends will have priority booking until 7 September. A coach will leave the Goldsworth Park Recreation Ground Car Park at 9.30am and depart Winchester to return at 3.30pm.
