In this workshop, classically trained Islamic Calligrapher, Gulnaz Mahboob, will introduce you to the highest form of Islamic art, 'Hüsnühat' – the practice of beautiful calligraphy according to the Ottoman School of writing. You will be shown how to construct each letter through basic strokes and learn the traditional practice, tools and materials used for ‘Hüsnühat’, including learning to cut and prepare a ‘qalam’ – a traditional reed calligraphy pen. This workshop is suitable for all abilities and backgrounds. No knowledge of written or spoken Arabic is required.
