'Realism' in Art

Whether you are new to the history of art world or someone who wishes to brush up on their existing knowledge, these talks set in an award winning gallery and museum might be just what you are looking for. Suitable for age 16+. Advance booking required.

Realist artists claimed to represent the world as it is, to appeal to a wider public as well as to painters, photographers and film-makers. Their work is deceptively simple, minimalist even, but eventually seems to invite the viewer to address deeper concerns, such as the social conditions of the day.
