Young Curators is for 13-19 year olds who are interested in learning more about art and how galleries and museums work. The group meet to work on projects related to upcoming exhibitions. This might be working with a professional artist to create your own artworks to be displayed in the gallery, or working with the learning and curatorial team to develop an exhibition. The Lightbox is an Arts Award centre, so you can also work towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold Arts Award. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, get creative and have something unique on your CV.
After a bit of time off, Young Curators is re-starting in September with an exciting new project and this time it’s all about comics. This will be a great opportunity to work with successful comic artist, Kripa Joshi who will show you different ways of producing comic art and help you develop your own style. Taking inspiration from ‘The Story of British Comics So Far: Cor! By Gum! Zarjaz!’ exhibition, you will then create your own comic art which will be displayed in the exhibition.
Kripa Joshi is the creator of Miss Moti, a plump woman who frequently blurs the line between fantasy and reality. She was recently featured in the Comix Creatrix exhibition at the House of Illustration and was a panellist at the Bradford Literature Festival. Currently she is working on a weekly online illustration project called Motivation Mondays.
