“The winning design does everything that we wanted – it is striking and also completely fulfils the brief – we are eagerly looking forward to the launch in September.” Marilyn Scott, Director, The Lightbox

The aim of the brief was to provide The Lightbox with a outdoor, semi-permanent pavilion which would act as an additional gallery space during the summer months.

The winning design from Tina Manis Associates of the USA will be constructed to sit alongside the RIBA award-winning building by Marks Barfield Architects and opened to the public in spring 2010.

The Art Fund Pavilion competition was initated by The Lightbox after it won the £100,000 Art Fund Prize in 2008. The Lightbox wanted to use a portion of their prize money in a way that would leave a legacy of this fantastic achivement as well as provide an extra gallery space for the public to enjoy for the years to come.
