In this week’s blog, we are pleased to announce a new Taste of Art artist, Sarah Dennis. Her beautiful work is currently on show in our Café so our visitors can be surrounded by art as they enjoy coffee and cake – hence ‘Taste of Art’! All of the pieces are also for sale and there are also some cards and prints available in the Gift Shop. Read on for more information about Sarah and her fairytale inspired pieces.

Sarah took her first steps towards becoming an artist by completing a foundation course in art and design at Brighton City College. She is influenced by storytelling and from a young age drew inspiration from her grandfather's collection of old books and Japanese artwork. Sarah has always possessed a strong desire to create a world of her own, fuelled by her love of nature, animation and her own personal experience.

In 2008, Sarah completed a degree in illustration at the University of The West of England, where she developed her drawing and applied her skills to children's books, editorials, designs and animations.

Her work now combines traditional scherenschnitte (paper cutting) with collage. Sarah's pieces exemplify the beauty of nature in fairy tales and whimsical childhood dreams, telling classic poems and folk tales through the medium of paper. Each piece is individually hand-cut using a craft knife to reveal exquisite, delicate detail within the illustration.

The works for sale here at The Lightbox are high quality giclee prints taken from the hand cut originals.

Sarah Dennis’ work will be on display in The Lightbox Café from 3 March – 12 April 2015, all works on show will be available to buy.
