History Boxes

Unless otherwise stated, all History Boxes contain a pack of suggested activities to do with the objects included.

Two of the History Boxes (Brookwood Hospital: A Victorian Community and Oral History) have been specially designed to introduce visitors to Woking's Story.

Brookwood Hospital: A Victorian Community

This box explores how the hospital worked and how patients were treated in Victorian Woking. Due to its sensitive subject matter, this box is suitable for pupils aged 11 and up.

Oral History

Includes wartime and childhood memories of Woking on CD, together with recording equipment for pupils to carry out their own oral history interviews. Suitable for all ages.

Reminiscence 1930s, 1940s and 1950s

Three different boxes with an eclectic mix of original objects from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Please note: these boxes don’t contain suggested activity packs. Suitable for all ages.

Tudor Tableware

Reproduction objects from the Tudor age inspired by Woking Palace. Suitable for all ages.

Victorian Wash Day

Victorian clothes, underwear and large laundry items such as tin baths and washing boards bring the hard work of wash day alive. Suitable for all ages, but particularly appropriate for Key Stage 2.

World War II

A fascinating selection of original WWII objects and audio resources with sounds from the era. Suitable for all ages, but particularly appropriate for Key Stage 2 and above.

1950s Childhood

Original toys, games and books evoking a child's life in the 1950s. Suitable for all ages, but particularly appropriate for Key Stages 1 and 2.
