From the Realm of the Dragon: The Ceramic Heritage of Zibo, China
This autumn, The Lightbox gallery and museum, in association with Surrey County Council, will play host to a fascinating collection of oriental ceramics from the Zibo Ceramics Museum in northern China, a collection that has never before been seen in the UK.
From the Realm of the Dragon: The Ceramic Heritage of Zibo, China, opening on 11 October, will chart the historical development of ceramics in China, shedding light on royal dynasties, artistic development and everyday life.

For the first time in the UK, Essential Accessories: Handbags and Heels at The Lightbox will bring together important loans from The Museum of Handbags and Purses in Amsterdam; housing the biggest collection of handbags in the world, with key objects from the Shoe Collection at Northampton; the largest collection of shoe heritage in the world, to offer a unique insight into the evolution of these most essential of accessories.

Celebrated artists to go on show at Guildford Cathedral
Sculptures from the prestigious Ingram Collection of Modern British Art, including pieces by Elisabeth Frink, go on show at Guildford Cathedral to celebrate the Cathedral’s Golden Jubilee, alongside a contemporary painting commissioned especially for the celebration by Jonathan Parsons.

The Nicholsons were a significant family of artists who, along with their circle of artistic friends, made a major contribution to and had a huge impact on art in the first half of the 20th Century.

The Lightbox gallery and museum has launched an intriguing photography competition with a difference. The competition involves entrants submitting photographs of someone they know (perhaps a family member or friend), who resembles someone in a set of portraits on display at the gallery.

On Friday 14 January ‘Ways of Seeing,’ a groundbreaking exhibition opened at The Lightbox gallery and museum. The exhibition which presents major artworks in a different light was declared open by Claudia Hammond of the BBC’s ‘All in the Mind’.

Over The Hill
A photographic installation was announced today by The Lightbox gallery in Woking. Tim Andrews was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2005 at the age of 54 and this photographic digital installation documents his journey through the period of his life when, in his own words, he “just happens to have” this degenerative illness. Over the last three years, Tim has been photographed by over 100 top photographers including such luminaries as Rankin, Jillian Edelstein, Karen Knorr, Steve Bloom, Danielle Tunstall, Mike McCartney and Harry Borden. This fascinating and compelling exhibition runs from 1 February to 11 March 2011 at The Lightbox gallery and museum.
