Big Dance Event 2010
Be part of the world’s biggest dance event at the Lightbox
Woking Dance Festival is delighted to bring the world’s biggest dance initiative, BIG DANCE, to Surrey over the coming weeks, culminating in the premier of a free, fun participatory performance by StopGAP dance company at The Lightbox on Saturday 10 July at 1.30pm.
StopGAP is one of the UK’s leading contemporary dance companies for professional dancers with and without disabilities, and the new work will involve dancers from the company, members of their youth dance companies and Surrey-based dance artists and you! It’s all about getting everyone dancing, whatever their ability.
Woking Dance Festival’s General Manager, Rachel Deadman, says, “It brings us much pleasure to be producing a new participatory dance performance at our home, The Lightbox with StopGAP. Reuniting with StopGAP has been high on our agenda since the success of GLOW, which celebrated the opening of The Lightbox in 2007.”
Other highlights of this summer’s programme also include:
· Free ‘taster’ sessions in Woking (1pm) and Guildford (3pm) town centres on Saturday 19th June for everyone to get involved;
· A School’s Pledge, enabling the first twenty local schools who register at www.wokingdancefestival.co.uk to receive a free workshop delivered at the school by a professional dance artist;
· Free workshops for Woking-based charity Link Leisure and a disability youth collective delivered by StopGAP in collaboration with other Surrey dance artists;
