Richard and Rosemary were nominated by The Lightbox for the fantastic voluntary work that they’ve undertaken over the last 10 years. Apart from the dedication and commitment they’ve made to The Lightbox, they have also been involved in many other local community activities including working in the Oxfam Shop, distributing ‘Horsell Matters’ and working in Guildford Cathedral library. Rosemary is also Secretary of Horsell Village WI whilst Richard is Chairman of the Members’ Committee of Surrey History Trust.

The presentation of the Woman in the Community Award Certificate was made to Rosemary by the Mayor of Woking, Cllr John Kingsbury on Tuesday 6th March at the monthly Soroptomist International of Woking and District Dinner Meeting at the Wheatsheaf Hotel. Richard will be presented with his award at the Rotary Club of Woking President’s Barbecue Evening in June.

Award Secretary, Peter Mansell said “There were so many worthy applicants, all who do so much for the Community but at the end of the day, the judge’s decision was unanimous. Rosemary and Richard are both thrilled to be recipients of the Award”.

Speaking of their award success, Richard and Rosemary said that "We were both surprised and honoured when the Lightbox suggested that we should be entered for the awards, and even more surprised when we heard that we had won. There are a lot of other people in Woking who volunteer in many areas, and we hope that some of them will also be able to make space in their busy lives to volunteer for the Lightbox".

The Lightbox is always in need of enthusiastic volunteers like Richard and Rosemary. Why not click on the link below to find out more about volunteering at The Lightbox, and come and join the team.
