York Road Project: Next Steps Forward
8 December 2016 - 12 February 2017
This is the fifth year The Lightbox has worked with York Road Project to deliver a series of creative workshops for their clients.
After initial discussions, the clients chose to explore the theme Next Steps Forward, and a selection of the works produced in the workshop is displayed in this exhibition on the first floor of The Lightbox, outside the Education studio.
The weekly workshops that took place throughout November provided the opportunity for individuals to experience art in various forms, and to develop artistic talents that perhaps otherwise would have gone undiscovered. The aim of the workshops was to boost self-esteem and for participants to achieve a sense of accomplishment, something that unfortunately many of York Road Project's clients feel they lack. They also had the opportunity to work with comic artist James Parsons in the last session, enabling theme to create their own comic style.
York Road Project was founded by individuals from local churches in response to a lack of accomodation in Woking, particularly during the winter months. The shelter receives a variety of clients from all walks of life, including those who have suffered from the recession.
