After the strangest of years, it is finally Christmas time! Add a touch of festive cheer to your home with these easy to make hanging decorations using recycled cardboard tubes.

You will need:

  • Cardboard tubes – toilet roll or kitchen roll tubes.
  • Paint and paintbrush or colouring pens
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • String or ribbon

Got everything? Let’s get started!

Start by painting or colouring your cardboard tubes. We used festive colours but you could use any colours you want.

Once they are dry, mark lines along your tube, about 1cm apart. As long as they are all about the same distance apart you don’t have to be super exact.

Cut your tubes up along those lines. You might need an adult to help with this step. To make it easier flatten your tube before you cut.

Now it is time to get creative. Use your glue to stick the hoops to each other in a star shape. You could use all the same colours as we have, or pick something different.

Then add more cardboard hoops in between the first hoops to create a snowflake effect. You can add as many layers as you want to make your decoration as big as you want.

Finally, tie some string through one of the hoops so you can hang it up.

There you have it! You can make lots of decorations in different sizes and in different colours. If you have white paint you could paint them white to make it look like a snowflake. Or use different colours to match your colour theme at home.
