The Lightbox Director, Marilyn Scott, gives her insight into the many benefits of becoming a Friend and why your support is so important to us.

The Friends of The Lightbox were formed to support the organisation in many different ways. They fundraise through events and outings, encourage others to come and enjoy everything The Lightbox has to offer and act as our advocates out in the wider community. In return membership gives an opportunity to meet others in a really friendly, sociable environment. Friends go on visits to lots of unusual places that they might not otherwise discover and above all enjoy the knowledge that they are supporting a very worthwhile local organisation that does great work in the community, particularly with those people who might not otherwise get to visit a gallery and museum.

Friends are very much part of The Lightbox family – they are invited to all our Private Views – a chance to see the exhibition before it opens to the public and to hear some interesting insights into how the shows are put together. They also enjoy a great talks programme with discounts on tickets and also discounts in the Shop and Café. Through the newsletter Friends also get to hear about new developments and our plans well ahead of general publicity. If you are interested in art or history and want to support the work of our great organisation do consider joining the Friends, it’s money very well spent!
