This week our brand new April – September 2016 What’s on programme launched and it is packed full of events that showcase why The Lightbox is much more than just a gallery.

Our highly popular Joke in the Box comedy nights return for another run on the last Thursday of each month – these fun nights have built up a loyal following and the evenings regularly sell out so advance booking is essential. Also set to make a comeback is our annual Vintage Fair which proved a big hit with visitors last year. General admission is free and this year there a bookable 'Make a Flower Crown' workshops for adults and children aged 8 plus.

Our learning team have excelled again at coming up with new and original workshop ideas for children, families and adults of all ages. Highlights include an ‘Out of This World’ family fun week in May half term which celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous Woking former resident - H.G. Wells. Also part of this programme are two talks on the science-fiction writer and a free exhibition ‘Wells’ War of the Worlds: A Visual Celebration (26 March – 1 May). In the summer holidays we will be hosting a two week ‘Summer Family Fun Festival’ (26 – 29 July and 2 – 5 August) which will have a drop-in and bookable workshops and lots of added extras!

Exhibition highlights include the current John Constable: Observing the Weather, on show until 8 May, which highlights the scientific approach the world-renowned landscape painter used to capture the changeable British weather. In the summer a fun and unique retrospective will open -The Story of British Comics So Far: Cor! By Gum! Zarjaz! (6 August – 31 December) which will chart the story of narrative art, with something for Menaces and Minxes of all ages! The Ingram Collection has three strong shows in this programme showcasing their growing Modern British and Contemporary acquisitions: ‘Not All Contemporary Art is Rubbish!’ (until 10 April), ‘The Road to Abstraction’ (21 May – 24 July) and ‘Show Us What You’re Made Of!’ (26 July – 2 October).

Full details about all the events in the programme can be found under the What’s On tab.
