Organised by Woking Borough Council, Living Well Week is an annual celebration and movement focused on making simple lifestyle changes in order to lead healthier lives both now and in the future. This year, Living Well Week runs from Monday 8 - Friday 12 October.

What does “living well” mean to you? To us, it’s taking a step back to enjoy our surroundings, appreciate culture and de-stress with some arts and crafts. At The Lightbox, we like to think it’s Living Well Week – every week.

Here’s why:

We are closed to the public on a Monday so that we can make sure we’re fully prepared and ready for a busy week. Planning our week means that we can be more productive, maintaining the diverse and stimulating programme of exhibitions, workshops and events on offer, whilst having more time to relax and spend with friends and family.

Twice a month on a Tuesday our friendly Lightbox volunteers host Storytelling for Under 5s, a free session starting at 11.00am on a first-come, first-served basis. Your little ones can enjoy stories, rhymes and hands-on creative fun whilst socialising and learning to play with new friends.

Art in Mind has been running on a Wednesday since 2013, and is a monthly programme of art workshops for people living with dementia and their carers or supporters. Research has shown that artistic stimulation prolongs the ability of people with dementia to play an active part in society, so by focusing on the participants’ creativity we can encourage positivity and discussion, enabling an increase in wellbeing for the individuals and their carers or loved ones.

For more information on our Art in Mind programme, please email Nick Kidd, Learning and & Engagement Officer, or call 01483 737812.

Surrounding yourself with art and culture is the perfect way to unwind after a long day in the office. Every Thursday, enjoy free entry to our Main and Upper Gallery exhibitions (usually £5) from 5.00pm – 8.30pm. With tasty tapas on offer (3 dishes for £11.95), why not stay for a bite to eat and some cocktails at Seasons Café, too?

Find out more about our Lightbox Lates programme of events, including poetry and comedy nights, here.

Absorbing yourself in art is – scientifically – a great escape from the stresses and pressures of everyday life. Twice a month on a Friday, from 10.30am – 12.30pm, collect a stool and some art materials from the Education Studio and set off into the galleries for two hours of indulgent reflective time to draw inspiration from the outstanding collections on display. Drawing for Adults is for artists of all abilities, so whether you’re a complete beginner or experienced professional, why not give it a go?

Expanding your interests and developing your knowledge doesn’t have to be difficult, and doesn’t have to be a chore. Every Saturday, The Lightbox offers a range of workshops, talks and events, all designed to engage and enable you to discover and develop new passions.

Did you know? Every Sunday, the Ambassador Room transforms into a yoga studio, where Susan from Susan’s World of Yoga runs three peaceful yet energising yoga classes focusing on posture, breathing and relaxation. Start your Sunday right with Dynamic Hatha, Beginners’ or Pregnancy Yoga and set yourself up for the week ahead with this fantastic way to stay mobile and healthy, both physically and mentally.

For more information or to book onto a Sunday yoga session, please contact Susan directly.
