The weather outside may be frightful, but this weekend will be delightful! And these fun bubble snake makers are the perfect way to get the kids out in the garden, running around blowing bubbles and enjoying themselves in the sunshine.

Equipment needed:

  • Plastic bottle (we know we're trying to not use them as much as possible, but you may have a squash bottle or fizzy drink bottle hanging around!)
  • Elastic Band
  • Scissors (you will need some adult help with these)
  • Old sock (or a face cloth will do)
  • Bubble mixture (washing up liquid and water mixed together)

Before we begin, mix together your bubble mixture in a shallow bowl - just a little washing up liquid and water. You want it to be nice and bubbly. Then set it aside to use later.

1. Ask an adult to help you to cut off the bottom off your bottle.

2. Cover the open end with an old sock or face cloth. Try to make sure that it is tightly fitted, so that any overhanging edges don’t get in the way of your bubbles. We used the toe end of a sock as it fit nice and snug. Secure the sock with an elastic band or if you don’t have one you can use tape to keep it in place.

Now you are ready to make some snake bubbles! Get yourself outside for this part as it will get messy.

3. Dip the sock end in the bubble mixture – make sure it’s not too wet, as otherwise it will be really hard to get the bubbles through the sock fabric.

Now, slowly blow through the cap end of the bottle and you will see start to see a bubble snake appear! Add some food colouring to the bubble mixture to make coloured snakes.
