Join Director of Piano Nobile, Robert Travers, in conversation with Mann’s second wife and favoured muse, Renske van Slooten, as she shares the secrets of this extraordinary painter’s life. Hear about the fascinating story of Renske and Cyril: after turning up on his doorstep in 1960, 28 years his junior, she became model, muse and chief money-earner.
One of Mann’s foibles was to have long conversations with artists long dead. He often ‘spoke' to Rembrandt, the main artistic influence in his work. Among others, he exchanged views with 'Vinnie' (Van Gogh), and ‘Paul’ (Cezanne) with whom he thought himself to be on close terms. The influence of his 'conversationalists' are evident in his paintings.
The story of Mann’s life, beginning as a child prodigy, and of his artistic development, is compelling. Hear it all with Renske and Dr. Robert Travers, the Director of the London-based gallery that manages the estate of Cyril Mann, Piano Nobile.
