Those off-cut pieces of Christmas wrapping paper no longer need to be merely put in the recycling bin this year. Use them to create this festive bunting to bring some Christmas cheer to your home décor this season.

You will need:

• Festive decorative paper – wrapping paper is ideal
• Plain coloured paper of contrasting colours
• Ribbon or string
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Glue

First, you need to cut up squares of your festive paper. The size of the square depends on how big you want your bunting flags to be. 7cm x 7cm is probably as small as you want to do, but feel free to go bigger if you want. You need one square per flag that you want on your bunting. I’m going to use mine to spell ‘MERRY CHRISTMAS’ so I need 14 squares in total so I’ve cut out a few of each different paper design.

  

Now, to make the flags. Fold the bottom corners of your square across to make a triangle shape. Glue the flaps down. Repeat this with all of your squares of paper.

Next, we need to make the letters. This can get fiddly so take care! Cut the letters out of your coloured paper. Make sure the letters are small enough to fit onto your triangle flags.

 

Glue your letters to your flags. Lay the flags out in the order you want them, then glue the letters to the flags. This way you can create a nice pattern with your different festive paper flags.

Finally, you need to attach your flags to your string or ribbon. Fold the top of your triangle over the string or ribbon and glue it down. You might need to trim the corners so you can't see them from the front. Glue your flags at regular intervals. Make sure you leave a slightly larger gap between the words.
