It's Halloween week! So for those of you not able to visit us in person this week, we are putting together some extra treats for you. First up are some fabric pumpkins, for a less messy, more decorative Halloween ornament.

You will need:

  • Fabric
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Pen
  • Toy stuffing

Got everything? Let’s get started!

1. Firstly, draw a big circle on your chosen fabric and cut it out (you can use a plate for size if you like or larger).

2. Create a running stitch all along the outside of the circle (make sure you have a knot in your end).

3. Then pull it together to create a pouch.

4. Before you pull it fully closed, fill it with the toy stuffing and then pull it closed before sewing it up tight.

5. Using another piece of thread, you can make the pumpkin segments by sewing from the top to the bottom up and over the pouch and pulling it tight before sewing down to give the illusion of the segments.

6. Then with black felt, cut a pumpkin leaf top and a long strip of felt which can be rolled up to make a stalk.  Glue the pumpkin leaf over the gap of your pouch and add the stalk, then you are done.

You can make these fabric pumpkins out of any fabric and colour and so you can theme them to your design. Which colours would you choose?
