The Breadwinners © Walter Langley

Cornwall has been a fascination for artists as early as 1809 but it was the extension of the Great Western Railway to West Cornwall in 1877 that really opened it up as an artistic destination. Melanie will discuss how artists such as Walter Langley and Stanhope Forbes had enjoyed painting the wonderful light of Brittany in France but discovered the same quality of light in West Cornwall. As they settled in Newlyn they found models and captivating subject matter in the fishing community.
