The Lightbox has been working with York Road Project annually since 2012 to deliver a series of creative workshops which culminate in an exhibition for their clients.

This year The Lightbox worked with the clients of the York Road Project at their day centre 'The Prop' to build a Diwali-inspired Phoenix lantern made from willow and wire. The clients then visited our Education Studio to create their own artwork based on the theme of Light using paints and pastels.

Being creative can increase confidence, self-esteem and social skills, and provide opportunities for future education, training and employment. It is particularly valuable for people who may struggle with more conventional forms of communication. Workshops took place throughout October and November and provided the opportunity for individuals to experience art in various forms. The resulting works are displayed on the first floor corridor, outside the Education Studio.
