Becoming Warhol: Fame, Factory & the Rise of Pop (1948 – 1968)

An art talk with Sarah Brown, Lightbox Gallery Director on Thursday 25 September, 1 – 2 pm.

From arriving in New York in 1949 as a young commercial illustrator to his rise as the king of Pop Art, this talk explores Andy Warhol’s formative years. Discover how he transitioned from stylish commercial drawings to iconic works like Campbell’s Soup cans and Marilyn Monroe. Warhol’s early drawings reveal a more intimate, personal side often overlooked, while the creation of The Factory in the early 1960s redefined how art was made. By 1968, Warhol had become a symbol of fame and mass culture — just before a shocking event would change everything. This is the energetic story of his rise to cultural icon.

Doors open at 12.30pm.
