You will need:

• Green paper (we made a green dinosaur but you could make yours any colour you like)
• Scraps of red and white paper
• 3 cardboard toilet roll tubes
• Glue
• Scissors
• Colouring pens
• Pencil

First, cut your green paper into strips the same width as your toilet roll tubes. Mark the width out then cut three strips the same length. We used A4 paper and got all three strips from one sheet of paper.

 

Glue the paper to the toilet roll tube. Put a line of glue at one end of the paper and stick the cardboard tube to it, then slowly roll the paper around the tube, adding stripes of glue to stop it unravelling. Glue the end securely to hold it all in place.

Glue your three tubes together in a row. This is the dinosaur’s body. Set it to one side – we will come back to this later.

Now take another piece of green paper and fold it in half. We used an A5 piece of paper (half of an A4 sheet).

Draw a head and neck shape, a tail shape, and two feet. Make sure the neck and tail have a little extra on the end – we will need some space to glue them to the body.

Cut them all out. Then use a different colour, we used red, to cut out some spikes or curved shapes to make neck ridges. You should have two heads, two tails, 4 feet and a few neck ridges.

To make the head, glue the neck ridges to the back of the head and down the neck.

Glue the second head shape on top. Make sure you leave a gap without any glue at the bottom of the neck. We’ve marked this with the black dotted line.

Use a scrap of white paper to make the eye, colour it using a felt pen and glue it on. Draw a mouth. Do this on both sides of your head. Then fold the two sheets of paper apart at the bottom of the neck as shown. This is how we will glue it to the body later.

Do the same for the tail. Glue the two tail shapes together but make sure you don’t glue right to the base of the tail, leave a gap un-stuck.

Decorate the four feet with toes using a coloured pen.

Glue the body parts to the body. Add glue to the folded out sections of the head and tail and glue them to each end of the body we made earlier. Glue a foot to each side of the front and back cardboard tubes.

There you have it! You could make lots of different colour dinosaurs. Or a multi-coloured dinosaur? Pop your pens and pencils in the tubes and it’ll make your desk or workspace look really jolly!
