There's something magical about painting - especially when we paint with our fingers, toes or feet! We love experimenting with different tools, and we know not everyone has a set of paintbrushes lying around. But hopefully, we all own at least one fork!

In this blog, learn how to paint a cute little hedgehog using just a fork as your paintbrush. What else can you paint?

You will need:

  • Coloured paints squeezed out onto a palette, plate or recycled newspaper
  • Fork
  • Felt tip pen
  • Paint brush (optional)

1. First, using a felt tip or pen of your choice, draw the hedgehog’s head, copying ours or creating your own.

2. Then, dip your fork in the paint and press it onto the paper to make some spikes for your hedgehog. You can use two or more colours to paint different coloured spikes. What happens if you dip your fork into different colours at different angles?

3. Repeat until the hedgehog has a whole body made up of colourful spikes. Will your hedgehog be long and thin or round and fat?

What else could you paint? You could draw a squirrel and give it a bushy tail or paint a face with spiky hair. If you have a paint brush you can use that to fill in some of the smoother areas.

Have fun and remember to show us what you created!
