Our busy team at The Lightbox is made up of lots of different departments; from our Exhibitions team, Learning and Engagement team, Front of House team, Marketing team, to our Café team. We thought that what better way to get to know everyone and gain an insight into what it’s like to work at a gallery and museum, than by doing a monthly blog. This week we chatted to Megan, our Café Assistant.

Tell us a little about yourself, how did you come to work at the Café?

I moved to England from South Africa 2 years ago, reason being, just because I could really but I also wanted to seek something a little bit more new and exciting and what better way to do this than to move to another country. I am qualified in Hospitality and one day I would like to open my own Café. Last year I came across a job opening at The Lightbox and took a crack at it and 3 months later I am here and learning a lot from everyone.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

I really enjoy the people that I work with, the volunteers and the customers that I have come to know. I love people leaving the Café feeling satisfied with the food and drink we provide and our friendly customer service.

What would you say are the biggest challenges of your role?

Making sure our customers walk out the door happy and satisfied because everyone has different needs and wants and we need to try our best to make sure that we fulfil them.

Do you have any favourites on the menu?

I would have to say the Smashing Pumpkin loaf and the hummus and falafel wrap!

Thank you to Megan for chatting with us!
