Are you looking for a new game to play out in the garden this summer? What about up-cycling six tin cans to make this fun Tin Can Alley game you can play with all the family!

Equipment needed:

  • 6 Rinsed tin cans
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • A4 Coloured paper and pens (or paints or washi tape)
  • Ball

You can decorate your tin cans however you like. We decorated ours using three different methods. We used coloured paper, paint and craft washi tape.

If you want to decorate your tins with paper:

Use your tin can to measure how wide the paper needs to be. Use a pencil to mark the point, then cut along the paper to create a strip. Wrap the paper around the tin can and glue it to hold it.

You could also decorate the paper before you glue it to the tin can. You could use felt tip pens, crayons, stickers, anything you like.

You could also paint the tin cans instead. We used acrylic paints, you might need to do a few coats to get a nice thick colour.

Or if you have some craft tapes you could try wrapping them around the cans. Or what about masking tape? Then you can decorate the masking tape?

Next, cut out 6 shapes from paper. We made circles by drawing round the bottom of one of the tin cans, but you can make any shape, stars, triangles, squares?

Decorate the shapes with numbers 1-6. Then stick them to each of the cans.

For the ball you can get a bit creative. If you have a ball already, just use that. A tennis ball or bean bag is perfect. You could even use a soft toy like a Beanie Baby. Or we used a scrunched up piece of paper!

How to play the game:

Pile the cans up into a pyramid, and take it in turns to throw the ball to knock as many tin cans over as possible. Keep score my adding up the numbers on the cans. Reset the cans and the next person takes their go.

First to 50 wins!
