The Lightbox Director, Marilyn Scott, writes about what she has been up to in the last month.

It’s been a really busy month for me and before we know it 'The Horse at War: 1914-1918' will be open, the excitement is really mounting here. The BBC were kind enough to show the film 'War Horse' on Sunday night so hopefully that will create even more interest in the exhibition. I have been travelling around quite a lot, off to the lovely Weald and Downland Museum at West Dean to give a talk and also to the Surrey Regimental Museum at Clandon. We have had some really good events this month, our volunteers’ cheese and wine was enjoyed by all and the Family Fun Afternoon gave everyone a last chance to enjoy 'The Giant Electronic Art Show'. We again welcomed the Women’s Support Centre exhibition 'Women's Support Centre: New Beginnings Arts awards 2014' with a really well attended private view where I enjoyed talking to the Mayor of Woking and our MP Jonathan Lord.

I am a Trustee of the beautiful Geffrye Museum in Hoxton and had a delightful evening there at the end of October. I have taken advantage of some of the great talks that have been going on in connection with the WW1 Centenary. I recently attended a talk on the War Poets at Imperial War Museum where Shirley Williams talked about her mother Vera Brittain and Siegfried Sassoon’s great grandson read his poetry, a rare treat. The talk by Richard Van Emden at the Surrey History Centre was also fascinating – the story of what happened to the families left behind on the Home Front was moving and the results of many years of research. Now we wait for our own contribution to the centenary, only 7 days to go!
