Our PR and Marketing intern Mimi gives us a look behind the scenes and tells us what made her want to join The Lightbox team.

Only a month ago, I joined The Lightbox as the Marketing and PR intern. As an art lover with a desire to pursue a career in marketing, this role has given me the chance to develop my passion for both subjects. Working at The Lightbox, I am enjoying taking on responsibilities and have gained a real insight into the day-to-day activities of a gallery and museum.

I was tasked with real work from the very first week – from drafting a press release, designing a poster, to writing a column for the Woking Advertiser! Being completely involved in the Marketing and PR for The Lightbox, I am developing new skills and experiences while learning about the diversity of activities necessary to successfully advertise a gallery and museum. I have really enjoyed seeing my work and photography actually in use, from e-newsletters and website updates, to advertisements and posters around the gallery.

The Lightbox is a truly unique space, with surprisingly high quality exhibitions featuring world class art, considering its quiet suburban surroundings. The chance to promote globally renowned artists such as Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol is definitely one of the highlights of working at this award winning gallery and museum. In the past month, I have learned just how much thought and planning goes into making these spectacular events and exhibitions actually happen.

I was particularly drawn to The Lightbox for its central role in bringing the local community together. In addition to the exhibitions, art-related talks and workshops, special events held at the gallery such as the monthly Joke in the Box comedy nights and Jazz Brunches ensure that there’s something for everyone. The team here at The Lightbox is doing such great work – I am glad to be part of it and look forward to taking on more responsibilities and learning about marketing and PR for a gallery.
