What are the Art History ‘-ism’s’?
During this series of art talks, speakers Melanie Paice and Peter Scott will explore the meaning behind some of the art theory ‘-ism’s’. Melanie is a Surrey based artist, art tutor and lecturer, who enjoys sharing her knowledge of art with others. Peter Scott, also Surrey based, has been a guide and lecturer at Tate Britain and Tate Modern for 15 years and also lectures to a wide range of organisations, including the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Towner Gallery, Art Fund, and National Trust.

Whether you are new to the world of History of Art or someone who wishes to brush up on their existing knowledge, these new lectures set in our award winning gallery and museum might be just what you are looking for.

Taking Turner, Constable, Courbet and Corot as the starting point, this talk will examine the main distinguishing features of Impressionism, and look at some of the scientific ideologies developed by Impressionists, such as colour theory and the nature of light.

Futurism and Vorticism
