Be an important part of creating the Lightbox Garden Project
Since opening in 2007, Lightbox Gallery & Museum has welcomed over 1.5 million visitors and won a place in the heart of Woking’s community as a vital cultural hub for Surrey. Communities have enjoyed our acclaimed programme of exhibitions from Grayson Perry to Bridget Riley as well as our museum which celebrates Woking’s unique history.
Whilst we have won awards for the unique building designed by London Eye architect Marks Barfield, the courtyard garden was never fully realised and currently is tarmacked with uneven ground, strong winds, encroached by the canal bank with bracken, ivy and weeds.
We were successfully awarded funding from Your Fund Surrey and supported by Surrey Garden Trust. We now have the opportunity to address the desire of our community to create a canal-side oasis that is environmentally sustainable, connects with our heritage and is a unique community courtyard in Woking’s urban town-centre.
There are many ways that your donation, whether you are giving a gift or a donation in memory of a loved one, can help us to create an oasis of peace and wonder that will be valued by generations to come.
Working with award-winning landscape designer, Miria Harris, and the Chobham-based landscaper, Landform, we will create a nurturing and accessible community garden for our community to connect with nature, reduce stress, discover new ideas, relax, play and meet with friends and family.
I’m very pleased to be working with Lightbox Gallery & Museum on their canal-side community garden. I believe strongly in the role gardens can play in bringing people together and supporting our health and wellbeing. I’m looking forward to creating a beautiful, generous public garden with the gallery — a place that is free to enter, rooted in its setting and there for everyone to enjoy.

The Garden will be a contemplative green oasis that is

· A sensory-friendly area for all, including those living with dementia

· Pollution and drought tolerant hardy planting
