Over the course of our closure, we'll be sharing quick and easy-to-follow guides for fun family crafts using bits and pieces from around the house.

Use an old egg box and some paint to create these adorable buzzy bees. How many will you make?

Equipment

  • Egg box (cardboard is easier than plastic)
  • Yellow paint and paintbrush
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Black pen
  • Black wool or ribbon or string
  • White card/thick paper

Instructions

1. Start by cutting one of the cups out of the egg box. Ask an adult for help as it can be quite tricky. Set the rest of the egg box aside - you can make more later if you want.

2. Paint the egg cup yellow then leave to dry completely. You might need to do a couple of coats of paint to get a bright colour.

3. Cut a very small slit into the side of your egg cup. Thread the black wool or ribbon into this slit to hold the ribbon in place. Then wrap the black ribbon around your egg cup a few times to create the bee’s stripes. Cut another small slit on the other side of the egg cup to hold the other end of the ribbon tight.

4. Use the black pen to draw a face onto the front of your bee. What expression will you give your bee?

5. Cut two wing shapes out of the white card and glue them to the top of your bee.

There you have it! Where does your Egg Box Bee like to hang out? In the flowers? Make a whole hive of bees from the rest of your egg box. What adventures will they go on?
