2023 Ingram Prize winner Kofi Perry presents a solo exhibition of his recent work. The Ingram Prize was established to celebrate and support artists at the start of their careers, and this exhibition, Perry’s first in a public institution, will feature his paintings, alongside works selected by the artist from The Ingram Collection.

Kofi Perry is an American contemporary painter based in London. Combining themes drawn from hip hop and science fiction with the art of ancient Egypt and classical western figuration, Perry depicts characters from a fictional Afrofuturist world of his own creation. Remnants From a Distant Future features three multi-figure narrative paintings that tell new and continued stories from Perry’s fictional Afrofuturist world. Their themes centre on spirituality, magic, and coolness. Each work synthesizes Perry’s personal take on Afrofuturism with his interest in traditional Western painting, and he has presented a selection of 20th century British art from The Ingram Collection alongside his own work to highlight similarities in appearance and methods. The exhibition marks Perry’s return to large frieze compositions and is part of his ongoing search for a universal sense of classicism.
